From a vision born in Kigumba to a movement transforming communities across Uganda.
Founded in 2025, we are a community-driven organisation committed to sustainable development and empowerment.
KIGUMBA DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE LIMITED was born out of a deep desire to address the challenges facing rural communities in Uganda. What started as conversations among passionate community leaders has grown into a registered organisation with a clear mission: to drive sustainable development and community well-being through innovative solutions in environmental stewardship, sustainable agriculture, public health, technologies, and sustainable livelihoods.
Every step of our journey has been shaped by community voices, shared vision, and unwavering commitment.
In the heart of Kigumba, Kiryandongo District, a group of community leaders, educators, and health workers gathered under a mango tree. They shared a common concern: despite Uganda's natural wealth, many communities were struggling with poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to basic services. They envisioned a different future – one where communities could thrive in harmony with nature, with access to clean water, nutritious food, healthcare, and economic opportunities. This vision became the seed from which KIGUMBA DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE was born.
The founders knew that lasting change could only come from within communities. They spent months listening – conducting community dialogues, needs assessments, and participatory planning sessions. They learned about the challenges farmers faced, the struggles of women and youth to find employment, the health issues affecting children, and the environmental degradation threatening livelihoods. These conversations shaped the organisation's core focus areas and ensured that community voices remained at the centre of every decision.
On 13 June 2025, KIGUMBA DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE LIMITED was officially incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee in Uganda. This milestone marked the transition from a community initiative to a formal organisation with a clear legal structure, governance framework, and accountability systems. The registration number 80034681687656 became a symbol of legitimacy and commitment to transparency. With offices in Wakiso, Kigumba, and Gulu, the organisation expanded its reach across the country.
Since our founding, we have reached over 1,200 households across 15 communities. We have supported farmers with climate-smart agriculture techniques, installed solar energy systems in off-grid areas, trained youth in digital skills, and provided health education to thousands. We have also championed child protection, road safety, and healthcare access. Each project is a testament to the power of community-driven development – and we are just getting started.
Behind every success is a dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and partners who share a deep commitment to community empowerment. Our Board of Directors brings diverse expertise in governance, finance, and development. Our field officers work tirelessly alongside communities, building trust and delivering impact. And our volunteers – local and international – contribute their time, skills, and energy to advance our mission. Together, we are a community of changemakers.
